Introduction

Organic chemistry is the branch of chemistry in which covalent carbon compounds and their reactions are studied. A wide variety of classes of compounds such as vitamins,drugs, natural and synthetic fibres, as well as carbohydrates,peptides, and fats consist of organic molecules. Organic chemists determine the structures of organic molecules, study their various reactions, and develop procedures for the synthesis of organic substances.

Organic chemistry is the study of the properties of the compounds of carbon that are organic. All carbon compounds except for a few inorganic carbon compounds are organic.Inorganic carbon compounds include the oxides of carbon, the bicarbonates and carbonates of metal ions, the metal cyanides, and a few others.

Organic chemistry is the most important branch of chemistry — but of course it would be nothing without the

many other areas of chemistry — in fact all branches of chemistry should not be viewed in isolation, even though they may often be taught in isolation. Advanced Practical Organic Chemistry ,Organic chemistry is all around us, life is based on organic chemistry, the clothes we wear, the drugs we take, the cars we drive and the fuel that propels them, wood, paper, plastics and paints.Organic chemistry is the study of compounds containing carbon the ability of carbon to form as many as 4 strong bonds to many other atoms, e.g., carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, halogens, sulphur, phosphorus ensures a virtual infinite number of possible compounds the constituent atoms and their exact combination determines the chemical and physical  roperties of compounds and hence, their suitability for applications.

The manual of Inorganic II laboratory work is a laboratory guideline to the students of Chemistry Department, Mathematics and Natural Sciences Faculty, Yogyakarta State University, in Inorganic II course. According to the material of Inorganic II course, the laboratory activities are directed to understand the model of ionic compound close packing, reduction-oxidation reaction of several metals, improve the double salt preparation and re-crystallization skills as the basic for advance laboratory activities.
Because of the restrictiveness of equipment and chemicals, some of practical subject can not be done. Of course, this laboratory manual does not support optimally to the Inorganic II course.

The English edition of Inorganic II laboratory work manual is the same in contents with Indonesian edition. Revision done by simplifies the language and the direction also separates the manual and the worksheet. It is hoped, this manual may be a guideline to improve student laboratory skill especially in inorganic laboratory work.

The Golden Book of Chemistry Experiments was a children's chemistry book written in the 1960s by Robert Brent and illustrated by Harry Lazarus and published by Western Publishing in their Golden Books series. OCLC lists only 126 copies of this book in libraries worldwide.
The book was a source of inspiration to David Hahn, nicknamed "the Radioactive Boy Scout" by the media, who tried to collect a sample of every chemical element and also built a model nuclear reactor (nuclear reactions however are not covered in this book), which led to the involvement of the authorities.
On the other hand, it has also been the inspiration for many children who went on to get advanced degrees and productive chemical careers in industry or academia.

Vogel's Practical Organic Chemistry Third Edition, 1956

One of the best books there is out there teaching practical organic chemistry is the one written by Arthur I. Vogel. The author is now deceased, but his teachings continues to live on - there has even been published a fifth edition of his masterpiece A Textbook of Practical Organic Chemistry after his death, containing many new preparations and procedures with techniques discovered in the last decades, which has been added to the book by other editors. However, the third edition of his book (first published in 1956) is actually of much better use to the hobby chemist, as it does not make use of any hideously expensive glassware/apparatus or exotic reagents or catalysts. Back in those days, an organic chemist was supposed to make many of his precursors himself, and to purify solvents and reagents in the lab before using them, as they were not available from chemical supply houses in 99.99% purity. There are even sections on glass-blowing in the book. The organic chemists of that day hadn't access to million-dollar NMR machines or GC/MS analytical equipment, therefore the preparations in this book don't require the use of such unavailable machines to identify products, only simple melting points to be taken, or the identification of certain odors, colors or crystal shapes.

The book has been scanned and turned into PDF format by Polverone, making a 73 MB file out of the thick 1200 page book. With the help of Hypo and Hocatka this PDF was converted it to the much more compact format DjVu, being only about a fifth of that size with almost the same quality and much faster viewing. As the bandwidth consumed will be much less using this format, it's possible to make it available online at this site.
